Interesting…I’ve seen software to do this before but not hardware. Does it work with PDAs too?

Do you have any concerns about the legality of the product in terms of copyright infringement?

Where did the comments go? What is this top secret? I’m no competitor, just an intellectual property geek. So who are the parties in the lawsuit?

After doing some more research I posted my findings here, SlingMedia is currently not being sued this was false information.

SlingMedia might face legal issues

The biggest “legal” issue I think Sling is going to have is with the NFL. Right now they black out a game in the home market if it doesn’t sell out. With a Slingbox, that would be very easy to get around.
Also, DirecTV has a HUGE amount of it’s subrscribers simply because of the NFL Sunday Ticket. People living in Miami can’t get Raiders games every week. Many fans buy the Sunday Ticket (which requires a DirecTV subscription) just so they can watch that one game a week. Slingbox would be a much less expensive alternative.
Both the NFL and DirecTV could stand to loose a lot of money if they let this technology go mainstream. I expect they will flex their muscles in some form or another.
Should be interesting.

I believe this falls under content control and it definately will be a tricky issue for Sling to get around. The NFL came at Tivo hard with thier TivoToGo feature that allows you to transmit your recorded programs to up to 9 other devices (PCs, laptops, palm pilots, etc.). Tivo had to agree to work with the NFL to develop some sort of programming specifically for Tivo users (I imagine something similar to DirectTicket) in order to get the NFL off their backs. More thoughts or ideas how this might pan out? What do you think about the compulsory licensing program?

Has anyone out there actually purchased this gadget? I discovered Sling last night and it really peaked my curiosity, but not enough to go on the limb with $249 without some research. So my impression of Sling is that I connect it to my cable connection then Ether to my router and it wil rebroadcast the tv signal? Need more info please.

I saw Slingbox at Best Buy and wonder if it can wotk with Dish Network. If it can, Do I need to pay an extra 4.99 a month as if it is an extra receiver or can a person in the Linving Room wath 1 program and I can be in my bedroom with the Laptop wathing another on Slingbox and not get charged by Dish Network? Also, if this is possible, could I use my Laptop as a DVR and record the program for future veiwing. Your answers will let me know if Slingbox is in my future. Thanks
